The School of Humanities and Languages at University of NSW and the State Library of NSW have announced the cocktail party launch for their upcoming symposium Voyages and Visions: A Symposium in Honour of John Gascoigne and Ian Tyrell. To launch the landmark three-day event is W K Hancock Professor Tom Griffiths, of the Australian National University, who will present his keynote address Global dreaming: Australia in the world.

Professor Griffiths is Chair of the Editorial Board of the Australian Dictionary of Biography and Director of the Centre for Environmental History at ANU. Tom’s books and essays have won prizes in history, science, literature, politics and journalism and his new book, The Art of Time Travel: Historians and their Craft (Black Inc., 2016), explores the craft of discipline and imagination that is history by portraying fourteen writers of non-fiction at work.
