Stanton Library in North Sydney are currently looking to fill the position of Senior Librarian, Historical Services. This is a parental leave cover position for a period of up to 10 months, and is primarily responsible for the care of the Local Studies Collections and North Sydney Council’s Historic Archives.
A major focus of the position is to provide a reference and enquiry service on historical matters to the public and Council officers. The Senior Librarian works closely with Council’s Historian as part of the Historical Services team. Weekend work for example for events in History Week and Heritage Festival is occasionally required.
Essential requirements include:
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field such as Library Science, Archives Management, or equivalent experience in a local government library;
- Demonstrated professional/technical experience in local history collections management, including the management of documents, photographs and objects;
- Experience in cataloguing and indexing of local history items and archives;
- Wide knowledge of Australian history in general and local history in particular.
