The State Library of NSW has just released a new online tool, Amplify, developed in partnership with the New York Public Library. The website provides access to the library’s rich digitised sound archive. The first collection made available is 75 hours of audio featuring a series of interviews with Nimbin residents from the Library’s Rainbow Archive.
Anyone who is interested in these unique oral histories can now listen to the interviews, and even help transcribe them. The collection has already attracted contributors who are busily transcribing these fantastic resources. We look forward to seeing more of the collection published online!
The launch was a great success in Nimbin attended by some of the interviewees and members of their families. Edits of the interviews were immediately under way and I encourage everyone to participate. Amplify is a tool that will allow greater access to our history.
Thank you for your comment Lucy. We were happy to share the project and hope it gets lots of volunteers. It is a wonderful tool.
