The City of Sydney Council have developed a new guide for the naming of suburbs, roads, parks, open spaces, places and buildings that are owned, operated or managed by the council. Their proposed naming policy outlines principles they will follow when suggesting, endorsing and approving names. It also provides guidance for when a name may be changed or considered for dual naming.

According to the City of Sydney:

Naming a place allows people to build connections to country and reflect the area’s history and diversity. The guide also promotes local Aboriginal words and supports restoring traditional Gadigal place names.

Download the documents at their website. The policy is currently on public exhibition and feedback is welcome through the Sydney Your Say website and closes 5pm Tuesday 20 March 2018: http://www.sydneyyoursay.com. au/naming-policy
