Join the City of Canada Bay Heritage Society for an open day at Yaralla Estate, also known as the Dame Eadith Walker Convalescent Hospital, situated on the banks of the Parramatta River in Concord West. On land originally granted in 1797 to Isaac Nichols, a convict-turned-businessman, the estate is one of the last large nineteenth-century estates remaining in metropolitan Sydney, evolving with history from land grant, to working farm, Victorian estate, twentieth century Edwardian estate, and institution facility.
The open day includes guided tours of the estate’s squash court, dairy, stables and gardens, a photographic display titled “Yaralla 1879-1970”, a sausage sizzle lunch and Devonshire Tea in the restored dairy.
The grounds will be open from 9:30 am until approximately 2:00 pm. The first tour will commence at 10:00am, continuing every 30 minutes until the last tour at 1:00 pm. Tour bookings are essential, with earlier tours the most popular. There may be some limited access to the mansion, but more information will be available on the day.
When: Sunday 30 April 2017, 9:30am-2:00pm.
Where: Yaralla Estate, The Dr/Nullawarra Ave, Concord West NSW 2183.
Cost: $15 General, $10 Concession, Children free.
