The Macquarie University Australian History Museum and Museum of Ancient Cultures will be hosting two free events -A Training Workshop on Tuesday 27 and the Knowledgeable Object Symposium on Wednesday 28 November.

The Training Workshop

The Training Workshop is a professional development event aimed at teachers, students and early career professionals in education and the GLAM sector. It will explore what makes objects valuable in educational and museum contexts, covering areas such as:

  • What is Object Based Learning?
  • Teacher feedback on pilot program
  • Different learning styles and the benefits of OBL
  • Case study presentations showcasing different ways of using objects to educate.
  • Panel discussion with industry and education professionals and academics
  • Hands-on group tasks

The Symposium

Like the workshop, this symposium will explore what makes objects valuable in educational and museum contexts and will explore the following questions:

  • How can we most effectively use objects in education at all levels?
  • How do we remove barriers between Learning and Teaching practice and GLAM collections?
  • How can we develop Object-Based Leaning Communities of Practice (#OBLCoP) to unleash the power of objects?
  • How does the digital revolution change our relationship with objects?
  • What new creative ways are there for thinking, knowing and working with objects in cross-disciplinary contexts?
  • How do we engage Primary / Secondary Schools with GLAM collections?
  • How can we engage Higher Education more effectively with GLAM collections?
  • How can we motivate community engagement with GLAM collections?
  • How do we empower educators and students to more effectively utilise GLAM collections?
  • What new tools and technologies will best facilitate object engagement?
