Join Dr Tanya Evans for a talk focusing on the forthcoming community authored, supported and funded book Swimming with the Spit: 100 Years of the Spit Amateur Swim Club. Tanya and the book’s other contributors hope to encourage readers and swimmers to think historically about their ambles down to the beach, invigorating morning swims and afternoon dips on sultry Sydney-summer days by showing how Mosman residents helped change the face of swimming. A small amateur swim club punched well above its weight, making an enormous impact both locally and internationally.
Dr Tanya Evans is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Modern History at Macquarie University who specialises in the social and cultural history of the family. The author of three previous books, she has also been a consultant for television production companies and is President of the History Council of NSW.
