Join historian and archaeologist Dr Paul Irish at the Blackheath History Forum for a special History Week 2018 talk on the themes of his ground breaking book, Hidden in Plain View: The Aboriginal Coastal People of Sydney.

Contrary to popular understanding of the fate of coastal Aboriginal people after European arrival in 1788, they and their culture did not die out. Although they featured in accounts of very early Sydney they were largely absent in nineteenth century narratives, leading to the misapprehension that they weren’t ‘there’.

This presentation resurrects a poorly understood period of Sydney’s history by bringing Aboriginal lives and culture back into view.
