Virtual Tour of Sydney Trades Hall
Hosted by Sydney Branch, Australian Society for the Study of Labour History (ASSLH)
Sydney Trades Hall stands for history from the ground up.
This virtual tour of the home of trade unionism offers images and stories on the development of unions, the eight-hour day and debates on all aspects of working and political life.
The ACTU, the Union of Australian Women, the Communist Party of Australia, the movement against Apartheid and the African National Congress in Australia, the Australian Labor Party have all called Trades Hall home.
Trades Hall collections cover campaigns against Pig Iron Bob, French Nuclear Testing, Conscription, and for equal pay, Indigenous Rights, Green Bans, a fair day’s work for a fair day’s pay, workplace health and safety and more.
The building houses the world’s second-largest union banner collection, registered as of National Significance.
